ChangHyun Cha, Trumpeter

Cha Changhyun is a trumpet player born in Busan, South Korea, and currently based in New York City. He studied at the Korea National University of Arts before completing his Master of Music in Orchestral Performance at Manhattan School of Music in 2021.

In 2023, Cha made his Broadway debut as a trumpet player in Sweeney Todd, marking the beginning of an active and versatile career spanning Broadway, orchestral, ballet, chamber, and early music performance in New York City. His Broadway credits include Wicked, Maybe Happy Ending, Ragtime, and Aladdin.

Beyond musical theater, he has performed with leading institutions such as the Metropolitan Opera, American Symphony Orchestra, and American Ballet Theatre. His orchestral experience includes performances under distinguished conductors including Myung-Whun Chung with the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra, Marin Alsop, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Leonard Slatkin.

In the chamber music field, Cha is a founding member of the Riverside Brass Quintet and performs regularly with NOVUS, the contemporary music ensemble in residence at Trinity Church Wall Street. He is also active as a Baroque trumpet performer, appearing with Trinity Baroque and The Sebastians, contributing to historically informed performance practice in New York City.

Through his work across Broadway pit orchestras, symphonic stages, chamber ensembles, and early music groups, Cha maintains a diverse and dynamic performing career rooted in both historical and contemporary traditions
